Truefire Vicki Genfan’s Body of Rhythm TUTORIAL
Developing solid rhythmic chops and a strong sense of “groove” is not just about working on your timing with a metronome, developing a wide vocabulary of rhythmic patterns, or learning the rhythmic approaches of your favorite players.
Of course these are all really important elements to focus on, but it’s really “groove” that gets toes tapping and bodies moving. Vicki Genfan’s Body of Rhythm masterclass introduces you to an approach she calls ‘body centered rhythm’ — the catalyst that takes your rhythm guitar craft to the next level.
”Without involving their body in the process and practice of rhythm, players are neglecting one of the most important elements of groove.
I’ll show you a variety of tools, rhythmic approaches and effective ways to practice them to become more fluid and expressive rhythmically.
You’ll be able to easily and quickly apply these tools and approaches when learning a new strumming pattern, nailing a melody, soloing and improvising, or just keeping good time with other musicians.
No matter what level of guitar playing you’re at, you’ll benefit from the unique focus on ‘body centered rhythm’ throughout the course.”
In Section 1, Vicki reviews important concepts such as rhythm, beat, pulse and feel, as well as define the basics of reading rhythm: note values, rests, ties, dotted notes, slurs and bends.
In Section 2, Vicki has you focus on ‘body centered rhythm’. She’ll show you how to find your pulse, an exercise that will help you develop a new sense of flow and profoundly deepen your listening skills.
In Section 3, you’ll dive into a series of practice sessions putting ‘body centered rhythm’ principles to work in a musical context. These carefully crafted exercises will hone your coordination skills and help you vastly improve your ability to play more complex rhythms by integrating different combinations of strumming, clapping, stepping and speaking.
Lastly, Vicki will show you to apply everything covered in the course across 10 playalong practice sessions featuring 10 versatile strumming patterns that you can use in countless songs.
Vicki will also share her thoughts on how you can continue using this course as a regular part of your practice routine, how to track your progress, and a fun way to play with some of the ‘rhythm syllables’ that you’ve learned to create unique rhythm patterns.
Vicki will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches along the way. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson.
You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are also included to work with on your own.
Grab your guitar, and let’s “groove” with Vicki Genfan!
